ED-300XL
Measurement and Sorting Instrument
The new ED-300XL is a low frequency eddy current instrument for measuring and sorting
ferrous materials for hardness, alloy content, heat treatment and metallurgical structure.
The unit compensates for surface roughness (lift-off), permitting accurate readings
through .010" to .015" coatings of rust, dirt or scale. The ED-300XL's maximum
eddy current penetration is approximately 1/8". Penetration depends upon the type and
hardness of the ferrous material. As the sensing probe, or coil, detects a metallurgical
variation, the instrument's needle (on the front panel) registers accordingly. Three front
panel controls provide adjustment of sensitivity, compensation and balance for unit
calibration.

- Compensator adjustments for "lift-off" stability
- Replacement steel ball tip on probe
- Compact design-only 4.75" by 9" x 6"
- Electronic "window" style gate with relay outputs
- All rugged, durable, lightweight aluminum cabinet
- Weighs only 6 lbs.
- 50 ft. probe lead possible without affecting accuracy
- Dust proof and weather resistant
- Wide temperature and humidity capabilities allow continuous operation under most
environmental conditions
- High quality components insure compact rugged construction with minimum maintenance

Modular design of the 4.75" x 9" x 6" heavy gauge aluminum cabinet
accommodates the basic ED-300XL unit and window gate for simple "go" and
"no go" operations. Weight of the complete unit is 6 pounds.

The Centurion NDT ED-300XL is particularly suitable for ferrous foundries, heat treat
shops, steel warehouses and general manufacturing plants...wherever quick, accurate tests
must be made to segregate for metallurgical analysis and structure. For example, the
instrument can separate gray cast from nodular cast iron. It can determine depth of case
under certain conditions. The ED-300XL can distinguish between slight differences in
alloy. And, it can measure hardness without damaging any parts. Note: all applications
must be based upon readings of known samples.
- General purpose probe measuring 2-1/2" long x 3/4" diameter, with 1/4"
replaceable steel ball tip.
- Through-type sensing coil with 1" I.D.
- Through-type sensing coil with 2" I.D.

The ED-300XL operates from a 110 volt, 60 cycle, A.C. line. The sensing probe is placed on
a known sample and adjustments are made for sensitivity, balance and lift-off
compensation. Once the instrument is properly set up, either manual or automatic testing
may commence. The ED-300XL is constructed with rugged, durable, high quality materials to
assure long, reliable service with minimum maintenance.
