Introduction Centurion NDT, in its continual effort as a leader in NDT technology has designed a series of transducer products to service the Ultrasonic industry. These products contain the latest developments in materials and manufacturing methods to assure uniform quality performance in inspection applications. Continual research is conducted to include new materials, assembly methods and ergonometric engineering in our products as they become available. Two examples of such research are EchoPaque Sound Deadening Products and our new contact series design which gives superior wear and performance for the testing dollar. Ultrasonic transducers, as used in most flaw detection applications, are usually required to deliver energy in short bursts at a particular center frequency. Since most crystals used in transducer manufacture have their own natural energy characteristics, it becomes necessary to modify them acoustically to produce the results required by the various flaw detection applications. As a result, two classes of transducers have evolved, the Resolution type and the Sensitivity type. The Resolution type transducer has an acoustic treatment which restricts its energy output to a vibration of 1.5 cycles to 2 cycles. The Sensitivity type can range anywhere from 3 cycles to a vibration rate determined by the crystal class and acoustic match to the material being inspected. In general, the Centurion NDT products follow the resolution 1.5 - 2 cycles and sensitivity 3 - 4 cycles format. These are general guides which can be affects by cable length, pulser-receiver, diameter, frequency, acoustic match, etc. The Centurion NDT transducer line is carefully inspected for quality at each stage of manufacturing from incoming materials specifications to computerized testing of final product. Each transducer has a characterization sheet so that uniformity from device to device is maintained.
